from the director

With the recent announcement of the Adelaide Film & Screen Hub in Glenside as the
new home for the SA Film Corporation, and a swathe of film projects about to begin or already in production here, the film industry in South Australia seems to be powering along. The pace is certainly picking up at the Adelaide Film Festival as we lock off our 2009 investment fund slate, and our programming team starts to roam the world to find the movie gems to entertain you at our festival next year [Feb 19 – Mar 1 2009]. This month sees AFF Associate Director Adele Hann attending Edinburgh and Karlovy Vary Film Festivals. The Melbourne Film Festival kicks off on July 25, and with AFF 05 and 07 Program Coordinator Michelle Carey now the MIFF chief programmer there we can’t wait to see their full program.

peter greenaway in conversation

Welsh-born Peter Greenaway is best known for his filmmaking during the 1980's and 90's, directing visually sumptuous films such as The Cook, The Thief, His Wife And Her Lover, Belly of an Architect ,A Zed and Two Noughts and his most recent film Nightwatching. His films have polarised viewers, garnering international accolades and audience walk-outs. A fearless visionary and provocateur, he rejected narrative storytelling in favour of his trademark exploration of sex and death.
Visiting Australia as the keynote speaker for the 2008 Australian International Documentary Conference (www.aidc.com.au), Greenaway spoke to Virginia Trioli about his body of work, and also what he's been up to since his last major feature film release in Australia.

'Peter Greenaway is Conversation' will be aired on ABC1 Tuesday July 8 @ 10:00pm and again on ABC2 Sunday July 13 @ 7:00pm.
