AFF investment fund slate for 2009...
The 2009 BigPond Adelaide Film Festival will world premiere eleven new Australian films from established and emerging Australian filmmakers including five features, one feature documentary, five short films, and for the first time a moving image art installation, all of which have received funding from the Adelaide Film Festival Investment Fund.
The AFFIF provides equity investment in Australian screen production of $500,000 per year for two years [2008-2009]. The Adelaide Film Festival Board, considering recommendation by the Festival’s Director Katrina Sedgwick, selects the projects. To date the AFFIF has invested $2.743M in 32 projects including 11 features, 4 feature documentaries, 12 short films and 3 cross-platform projects.
The titles include new features by Sarah Watt, whose LOOK BOTH WAYS opened the 2005 Adelaide Film Festival, Kriv Stenders (BOXING DAY), and Safina Uberoi (MY MOTHER INDIA) plus first features by acclaimed ‘talents to watch’ Granaz Moussavi, Glendyn Ivin and Warwick Thornton and short films by a dazzling array of Australian talent. Appearing in these films are amongst others: Sacha Horler, Matt Day, Hugo Weaving, John Brumpton, Aden Young, Robert Menzies and the voice of Nick Cave. Plus a host of very talented newcomers including ten year old Tom Russell (LAST RIDE), nine year old Portia Bradley and fourteen year old Jonathan Segat (MY YEAR WITHOUT SEX), and fifteen year olds Marissa Gibson and Rowan McNamara (SAMSON & DELILAH).
ROMANTIC COMEDY....
2009 BigPond Adelaide Film Festival celebrates the Rom Com - not just for the ladies!
The 2009 BigPond Adelaide Film Festival (BAFF) will celebrate the simplest, most elegant and most successful genre formula of all time, the romantic comedy, with a program of films that look at what happens when boy meets girl and complications ensue – and of course, there’s nothing more serious than comedy! Four classic films of the genre – THE APARTMENT, MANHATTAN, MIDNIGHT and THE PHILADELPHIA STORY – will be included in the program. Watch out for some soon to be unveiled new contributions to the genre!
ART AND THE MOVING IMAGE....
As the moving image in visual art becomes more and more potent, and continues to influence and be influenced by ‘film’, increasingly these art forms are blurred as practitioners move between the two. The inclusion of a visual artist in the Adelaide Film Festival’s Investment Fund slate recognises this new development and the excellence of this artist’s work. The 2009 BigPond Adelaide Film Festival is excited to announce a bold new programming direction with the presentation of a new commissioned work – and first major survey of selected works – by acclaimed Australian artist Lynette Wallworth, to take place at the University of South Australia’s Samstag Museum of Art, Australia’s newest public art museum.
natuzzi award jury announced
The 2009 BigPond Adelaide Film Festival is pleased to announce the jury for the 2009 Natuzzi International Award for Best Feature Film.

In making their deliberation, the jury will be looking for a distinctive voice, bold storytelling, and creative risk-taking—but more than anything, a film that genuinely engages and transports the viewer. Laurence Kardish, the president of the jury, will announce the winning film on the closing night of the festival. Joining Laurence on the jury will be J.M Coetzee, Jo Dyer, Bill Gosden, Laurence Kardish, Naomi Kawase, Hannah McGill and David Stratton.
